“In this transition to a whole-of-society and systems approach to governance, we stand in solidarity with the Asia and Pacific Region as we fortify our resilience for sustained growth and security,” Gov. Jose Enrique S. Garcia III stated during the launch of the 2024 Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR) at the SMX Convention Center in Manila on Friday, October 13, 2023.
Led by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), the 2024 APMCDRR brings together global leaders to showcase their significant and innovative solutions for managing disaster risks. It likewise aims to promote collaboration and unified efforts in the region for the successful implementation of the Sendai Framework.
In his speech, Gov. Garcia highlighted the impact of DENR’s Transdisciplinary Approach for Resilient and Sustainable Communities, also known as Project TRANSFORM, in integrating the most effective methods for addressing the climate crisis, including the use of science-based and data-driven solutions. “The Province of Bataan is fortunate to have been selected as one of the pilot provinces for the Resilient Local Government System Program of the National Resilience Council, focusing on building our capacities across four pillars: Human Development, Local Economy, Infrastructure, and Environment,” Gov. Garcia added.
United Nations Secretary-General Mami Mizutori emphasized that this event will be beneficial for all national and local government units, enabling them to learn from the best practices and methods of other countries to mitigate climate change and enhance their resilience. Said event is expected to attract 3,000 high-level delegates from around the world.
